Three TV debates set in Pittsburgh's mayor's race

Three mayoral candidates running in Pittsburgh's May 19 Democratic primary have agreed to appear in three televised debates.
WPXI-TV will air the first debate live April 6 on PCNC; KDKA-TV will broadcast a taped debate April 15; and Tribune-Revew news partner WTAE-TV is planning to broadcast a live in-studio debate April 20. Each debate is scheduled to air from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Paul McKrell, spokesman for Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's campaign, noted the mayor promised in a Feb. 18 letter to his challengers City Councilman Patrick Dowd, 41, of Highland Park, and attorney Carmen Robinson, 40, of the Hill District, to appear in the three debates. Ravenstahl has no plans to appear in other debates because of prior committments, McKrell said.
Dowd has said he wants to schedule nine debates, one for each City Council district.
