The battle against so-called slum lords in the City of Pittsburgh is heating up.

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and community leaders in Homewood are promising a fight in court and on the streets in an effort to rebuild the neighborhood.

The city and community leaders are fighting and winning in court.

On Wednesday, Ravenstahl and Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper walked on Formosa Way in Homewood, a street notorious for gun violence and drugs.

The mayor pointed out nearly 140 units of dilapidated apartments that now must be taken care of. A judge ordered the owner to do so.

Community members think cracking down on bad landlords is a step in the right direction.

The belief is that getting rid of blight will attract development.
